Ethical Thinking: Truth

By Linda Fisher Thornton

Truth and Ethical Leadership

This week, I’ll take a look at the role truth plays in ethical leadership. At a time when “truth” itself is elusive, how does finding the truth come into play in ethical leadership?

Ethical Leaders Make a Point To:

  1. Approach issues with uncertainty and curiosity
  2. Seek truth and speak truth
  3. Stay media literate
  4. Seek out reputable objective sources, question motives, and dig into data
  5. Understand that truth, like ethics, is multidimensional
  6. Stay open minded and willing to change and grow
  7. Cut through “information pollution” to discern the most important variables

The quest for truth is one of the most important elements of leading responsibly in a global society. You can’t be an ethical leader without it.
